The fastest way to get to Zakopane is by landing in Krakow. Depending on your budget and schedule, you have a few options:
Alternatively, you can also land in Katowice or even Poprad (Slovakia). However, Katowice is further away and going from Poprad means having to pass a boarder, which could come with unexpected delays.
Summer in Zakopane, Poland runs from June to early September. Each month brings a slightly different experience, depending on what you’re after.
In short: May, June or September for peace and photography, or July and August for a more holistic Zakopane experience that includes music and culture.
Keep in mind that virtually all establishments and experiences are open year-round, so there’s really never a bad time to visit Zakopane – summer, spring or autumn!
The summer weather is Zakopane is mild – it’s warm in the valleys and cool in the mountains. Daytime temperatures hover around 18–26°C (64–79°F) in town and drop to 10°C (50°F) in evenings.

Miles upon miles of scenic trails start from the very edge of Zakopane. The surrounding Polish Tatra and even its extension into Slovakia is known for beautiful nature, stunning lakes and hiking routes of varying difficulty – a hiking paradise for beginners and veterans.
Morskie Oko and Czarny Staw are legendary lakes, well worth the hike

1. Valley of Five Lakes (Dolina Pięciu Stawów)
A beautiful valley filled with glacial lakes, surrounded by imposing peaks. It’s less touristy than Morskie Oko so it’s a more peaceful, yet equally essential Tatra experience.
2. Five Lakes → Szpiglasowy Wierch → Morskie Oko
The gorgeous loop connects two of the most famous spots in the Tatra Mountains. The route via Szpiglasowa Przełęcz includes a few short chained sections that are good for beginners. You’ll end at Morskie Oko and go down to Palenica Białczańska.
3. Kapsrowy Wierch → Gąsienicowa Valley → Hala Gąsienicowa → Kuźnice
Gąsienicowa is a must-see location as the meadows bloom in spring/summer. Pink fireweed covers the land embracing the traditional wooden shepherds’ shelters you see around the valley.
The easier option is take the blue trail from Kuznice. If you’re looking for a challenge, you can start from Kapsrowy Wierch by taking the cable car.
4. Kuźnice → Nosal Peak
A short hike, running a little over an hour – however, it can be quite steep in sections. Nosal is an iconic peak, with a fantastic view of Zakopane, Giewont, and the High Tatras – perfect for photos.

Stroll down the infamous main strip – Krupowki Street – inarguably the king of all streets in Zakopane, Poland. In summer, it’s bustling with life – street musicians, unique venues and museums around every corner, booths of handmade souvenirs and oh-so-delicious street food and local Podhale cuisine.

Once a means for transporting goods, wooden raft trips are a centuries-old tradition that has stood the test of time. The 2-hour ride down Dunajec River takes you through Pieniny National Park and humbles you with the imposing “Three Crowns” peaks, 1,000m above sea level. Kasprowy is one of the most famous peaks in the Polish Tatras and as you can see from the picture on the left, it deserves its fame. An absolutely stunning view is ripe for enjoying from a choice of multiple restaurants and cafes up top. Gubalowka is not as high as Kasprowy, but the train ride is as short as 4 minutes, leading you to a beautiful hill overlooking Zakopane. A perfect place for a picnic in summer and spring.
A whimsical way to enjoy the Tatra National Park. Skip the hike and soak up the views, your soundtrack being the occasional soft neighs and thumping of hooves below.
